Your ideal election package

Posted by Fiona Wright at October 25. 2007
Hypothetically, if you could make a shopping list of policies that your ideal candidate would pursue- no matter how unlikely, or unrealistic- what would it include?

Let's build the perfect politician here...

1. ratify Kyoto, stop pulp mill, serious action on environment- realistic targets

2. get rid of workchoices totallly

3. out of iraq

4. recognise gay marriage/gay rights

5. more targetted action for indiegnous community- eg. social workers, doctors, counsellors rather than the army!

6. serious money into hospitals & education

7.long term solutions to water shortage (not desalination plant) rather bigger subsidies into water tanks etc.

and yes i know, i'm dreaming.

Hi I think your ideal election package sounds great and why should you be dreaming? All these things could be possible if only ordinary people would support them. It seems these ideas have been around for ages but people's attitudes to things are still in the dark ages unfortunately. Politicians like John Howard keep us there and the media often doesn't really help to support rational thinking because they want to sensationalise things.
