On the topic of whether the Liberals could react to a loss with increased zealotry, their former leader commented:

OK, here's another, not strictly an election comment, but in relation to Howard's nouveau reconciliation speech last week, so I think it qualifies.

We asked the Central Land Council for a comment that evening, and their media adviser said David Ross would need to consider his position overnight. This pearler is what he came out with the next day.

"He's got a brand new skin, but he's the same old snake, he's got the same old venom,"
