Jem Anning

by ElectionTracker Editor last modified 15-07-2008 00:56

Jem is the managing editor of electiontracker.net

Jem Anning, 25, grew up on the beach in Austinmer near Wollongong taking handstand competitions way too seriously.

Jem decided to become a journalist in the Autumn of 2005 when she was gallivanting about Asia. Her plan was simple: to choose between continuing her law degree, and hence a life of misery, or to enrol in journalism at UTS, her fourth university to date.

It just so happened that she came across numerous journalists and lawyers roaming about the Indian countryside. Asking them if they enjoyed their work was a completely flawed survey - the journalists were travelling as part of their jobs, treaking Nepal for travel mags, and the lawyers, exhausted and lacking morals, complained that it was the only time they had off since starting work. It wasn't a tough decision.

Ever since she has been penniless, but can always find the right word.

When she is not tracking the election, or tracking the trackers, she works as an editorial assistant at the Financial Times.

So far her favourite part of the electiontracker.net project is encouraging writers to experiment with substance (and style).
