National Tally Room 4: Canberrans are loud
Nick Parkin doesn't know where he is.
This whole democracy thing is an absolute nightmare.
I've just spent the last three and a half hours trying to negotiate through all the AEC information that keeps coming through on the wires. It seems about every thirty seconds there's a new update for another seat somewhere in this country.
More numbers. More names. More swings. More anticipated swings. More previous swings. It's impossible to keep up. It's impossible to even understand.
My mind is swinging between insanity and delirium.
It's now 9.30pm and neither Matt or I have eaten dinner. We're also out of water. As far as I can tell there's no air conditioning in this place either. It's like a sauna in here, except everyone is wearing suits and headphones. I really should've worn more deodorant.
Since the tally room is in Canberra, and Canberra is largely a Labor town, there's quite a bunch of vocal Kevin07 supporters here. They yell and scream whenever any seat moves closer towards an ALP victory.
The yells and screams are currently occurring about every 15 seconds, which should provide a good indication of what is happening nationally.
It looks the beer line is getting shorter. It might be time to have a bevy, and also see what assortment of meat pies are on offer (about the only dinner choice in this place). I'm assuming just meat. Maybe meat and mushroom for the gourmet option.
Wait. A "Kevin" chant just erupted over the venue. Did he just win? Is it all over?
